The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends starting swimming lessons at the age of 1.
It is so, so, so important that we teach our children to swim, especially those of us who have families that spend a lot of time on the coast. Below is a summary of what I found when I researched swimming lessons in our area. If you have anything to add, please reach out!
The Sports Center in Morehead City offers Water Babies*, Group Lessons, and Private Lessons.
Cape Carteret Aquatic & Wellness Center offers Water Babies* and Swim Lessons.
Beaufort Swim offers private Lessons by Appointment.
Eastern Athletic Club in Beaufort offers Private Lessons.
Anna Loynes offers Private Lessons. This summer Anna is focusing on private lessons(30 minutes). She sees incredible progress in kids after four lessons, so usually recommends starting with four and then reevaluating after to see if more lessons are needed. She will come to any pool in Morehead City or Atlantic Beach. If someone does not have access to a pool, she has one available for use. Her phone number is 252-269-5451 and her email is email@example.com. This is her fifth summer teaching lessons and she has experience with children 9months-14years.
Grace Bell is a certified lifeguard and has been giving swim lessons for the past 3 years. She has worked with kids ages 6 months to 12 years. She starts out with three 30 minutes sessions but will add on more sessions if desired! Call, text, or email to book!
* Water Babies - Parents and children learn basic water safety and introductory swimming skills with a goal of helping develop comfort and love of the water at a young age. Usually for ages 6 months - 3 years.
