Mom’s MOMent: Michelle Williams

familyMOTHER OF: Kyle (age 7) and Megan Williams (age 5).

 -

About me: I am 30-years-old and have been married to my wonderful husband, Thomas, for nine years. We have two fabulous children who are my life. I work full-time at Carteret General Hospital and I go to school part-time. I love going out on the boat, relaxing in the pool, going to the gym and shopping! I am very close to both of my parents, and can only pray that both of my children will be as close to me when they are grown.

 -

A week in my life: Three to four days of my week I wake up at 4:45am, get to work by 6:30am, and return home around 8pm. The remainder of my week is spent with my family. Whether we are picnicking at the park, swimming at the pool, out on the boat or just relaxing at home, we are sure to be together. At night, once the children are asleep, I spend time doing homework and studying until 10 or 11pm.

 -

I decided to go back to school because… I was working for my dad, and when the economy slowed down, there was no longer a need for both of us to be there full-time. I always wanted to be a nurse, and I felt that there was no better time than the present to fulfill that dream.

 -

Once I graduate, I plan to… continue working at Carteret General, and hope to stay on the surgical floor. I would also like to take a week off and go on a cruise with my family.

The best part of being a mom is…. everything! I love being a part of making my children happy, hearing them laugh, guiding them in their decisions and comforting them when they are sad. There isn’t just one best part of being a mom. I am very proud to be a mom and hold that title very dearly!

The worst part is… wishing I could spend more time with my children. Between working, school and household things, I wish I had a little more free time to just play with them.

 -

The best parenting advice I ever got is… learn to pick your battles, the housework will be there tomorrow, laugh, and enjoy the children because they grow up fast.

 -

Being a mom, I’ve learned that… things don’t always work out the way that they are planned. You just have to readjust and move on. I have learned to laugh when you feel like crying, that spilled juice on the new carpet isn’t the end of the world, and that the housework will be there tomorrow, but the memories you could make today may not.

 -

My proudest moment as a mom (so far)… everyday that I get to hear the word “Mommy,” it makes me proud. There isn’t any single moment that stands out as being the “best.”

 -

My proudest moment as an individual (so far)… is knowing that I am able to balance work, school, housework and family.

 -

The quote I love is… “because I can!” My brother always said this, and it gives me encouragement to proceed and finish my education and become a registered nurse (RN).

When I need to relieve stress, I… clean! When I get upset or stressed, cleaning always helps me feel better.

 -

My favorite “me-time” activity is… getting a pedicure.

 -

I couldn’t live without… my camera. Our family loves going through old photos.
