Back-to-School Craft: Awesome Organizers

kidscornerWhat do you do with all the extra pencils, erasers, red pens and crayons left over once you’ve organized your child’s back-to-school list? Have some family fun with these cute containers that kids will love to create and keep their supplies in.  All you need are:

  1. the items you want to store (erasers, stick pins,  paper clips, rubber bands,  crayons, etc.)
  2. an empty container with a lid (you can use a large matchbox, a coffee can, Crystal Light containers, etc.)
  3. a ruler and scissors
  4. a color scanner and printer, or color copier.

Make It Easy: Select the items you want to store and place them on the bed of the scanner or color copier (you can put them down randomly or create a pattern). Then scan or copy the image onto regular or peel-and-stick paper which is available at most office supply stores.
            -
Trim the printout so that it matches the height and width of the container. If using regular paper, apply glue to the label or use tape to wrap it around and adhere it to the storage container.
-
Big Idea: Kids can also use this same idea to create special containers to use as banks or to give as gifts to mom or dad for storage of coins, seashells, buttons, beads or special mementos. Email a photo of your child with his or her awesome organizer to tricia@bellagurl.com, and we’ll feature it in an upcoming issue of Crystal Coast Parent magazine.
